Food Be Good from Frankfurt (Oder) turns leftover canteen food into affordable meal subscriptions for people on low incomes. Canteens cut food waste with around ten minutes of effort a day.
Website: foodbegood.deCanteens throw away prepared meals every day. Many want to change this but lack a simple, legally sound way to pass food on. At the same time, people facing financial hardship often cannot afford a warm meal.
Users apply via a waiting list and are selected for a meal subscription. They pay once and collect their meal in their own reusable box at a fixed time after the canteen closes. Canteens receive an analysis of their surplus, a matching number of subscribers and short training material: according to Food Be Good, staff onboarding usually takes under 30 minutes, after which about ten minutes a day are enough.
Canteens reduce food waste, strengthen their CSR and sustainability goals and can generate extra revenue. The region gains low-threshold access to healthy food.
