klugidu is an AI-powered, evidence-based reading programme for grades 1 to 6, based in Landshut, Germany. While a child reads aloud, the app assesses their reading skills and creates matching stories and exercises.
Website: klugidu.deMany children leave primary school without being able to read confidently. At the Landshut Founders' Award the team cited studies suggesting around 25% of fourth graders can barely read. Teachers rarely have time to support each child individually.
The child reads a text aloud. klugidu uses AI to measure reading speed and accuracy and captures the child's interests. It then generates personalised stories and exercises the child can help shape. Progress is tracked continuously and shared with teachers and parents. Data is hosted in the EU in line with GDPR.
klugidu originated at Landshut University of Applied Sciences and is scientifically supported by the chair of German language didactics at the University of Passau. The team was funded through the EXIST start-up grant and won the Landshut Founders' Award 2025. In a reading initiative across the city and district of Landshut, 39 schools use the app; by February 2026 more than 51,800 stories had been read there.
